why do dads always have all the fun?!

i'm the one nagging to

get out of bed,
get dressed,
eat your breakfast (you asked for oatmeal, you eat oatmeal... no, you cannot change your mind to toast until your oatmeal is done),
finish your milk,
take a nap,
blow your nose... NOT on your sleeve,
share with your brother,
keep that out of your mouth,
shut the door,
don't touch,
clean up your toys...

and dads get to show up
for a hot meal,
to jump on the bed,
for the wrestling match
for snack time
for wii time

and then moms start in again for
bath time
teeth time
bed time...

BUT, I do love being home with them... I just wish I had the skills to be the fun one as much as dad :)

time w/o kids...

yesterday, my friend took the kids for a few hours so I could run some errands. oh, how I love those few quiet hours!!!

a store w/o checking my feet, wondering where kids are.

a hot coffee that is emptied and it's still somewhat hot.

listening to my music in the car... that's a really nice one.

not talking in the car... again, really nice.

but, they are fun and I do love being with them both :)

the zoo.. in october?!

We looked at sweet pea on saturday and asked her what she wanted to do. She said she wanted to go to the zoo... hubby and I looked at each other and said, why not?! We didn't leave the house until almost 10:30 (the zoo's about 25 minutes away), but when you have a season pass, it really doesn't matter how long you stay, right?
I gues I should have prefaced this with the fact that sweet pea dressed herself on saturday. Hubby had to talk her out of wearing bloomers (the cute little underwear you would wear with a dress if you have a hard time NOT showing your underwear to everyone). She has a short sleeve, pink, shirt on which matched pretty well but hubby told her it was going to be cold and she needed a sweatshirt. She picked one that is a bit small and doens't match at all! Oh well, she dressed herself, right?
Peanut's really enjoying 'walking'... not so good at it though. He has quite a shiner on one cheek... took a header into a book shelf!
That's it, pretty un-eventful day. We ended up leaving the zoo around 1pm... giving the kids granola bars and fish for lunch since they were both falling asleep in the car... nice parents, right?

Sweat Pea's first day of school

9/8??? or 9th? Gosh, I can't remember the date, isn't that horrible!!!

We missed the orientation, because we were visiting grandparents... but Sweat Pea didn't skip a beat. She went running into her room and went straight to playing... with a "bye, mom!"

I did laugh at all of the moms and dads dropping of their little ones with video cameras and such. I guess I didn't even think about brining hubby along for the big day. oops. She'll be scarred for life : )
She's posing for us.
(again, with the funny faces... thanks, uncle mike!)

apple picking

(he's hugging me)
So, living up here in the frozen tundra (sorry, to those friends of mine that live in Canada... I couldn't imagine!). We try to take advantage of our fall days as much as possible.

Last sunday, we all woke up from naps... it wasn't raining... it was quite warm... so we loaded up and drove to our favorite apple orchard!!!

We picked a huge bags of apples, tasted as many apples as we could, and ate 1/2 a dozen apple donuts as fast as we could (hoping that we wouldn't have to pay for them if they were gone by the time we got to the register :)

My back was about done with the hefty one riding on it for an hour... yikes!

(thanks to uncle mike for showing me how to make 'funny faces')

(he holds the peels in his mouth for a really, really long time... my back was pretty juicy by the time we were done too)

Pumpkin patch

Last monday, Sweet Pea was supposed to go on her first field trip with her preschool to a local pumpkin patch. Well, it rained!!! Bummer! They still had a pumpkin party in the classroom... so she really didn't know the difference...
After the metrodome tour, we went to the pumpkin patch... it was such a nice day!!
They took us on a tractor ride out to the patch (which was huge). We could have picked pumpkins out there, but they were the same price as the ones that were already picked, and we're lazy, and Peanut is HEAVY!!!

metrodome tour

Saturday, at the early hour of 9am, we were in downtown at the metrodome for a tour. Now, not being a huge baseball or football fan, you might ask what we were doing at a tour of a stadium?! Friends of ours are huge fans and arranged the tour. We thought we should support them in their 'fan-ness'... and Sweet Pea and their little girl get along really well.

All the way there, "mommy, where are we going"... uh, how do explain this one to a little girl that doesn't watch baseball or football?! "Uh, we're going to a baseball park"... then, thinking to myself, why did I have to use the word "park"?!! She's going to be looking for the swings and slides the whole time we're there!!!

Her friend being there was news enough for excitement!!!
Unlike the last ballpark tour we took, in Boston, we were actually allowed to run in the field (which is set up for football since our baseball team isn't playing anymore). Both girls were pretty sweaty after alot of running!
Here they are... Sweet Pea and her friend!
And here's the big man, dreaming of his future as a linebacker!!!
