too cute to forget

Mommy: I'm so proud of you for getting your vest and book.
Au: I said the whole verse.
Mommy: really (thinking she was probably prompted)
Au: For God so loved the world that He gave his only forgotten Son. That whoever shall believe in him will have mevorlasting life. John 3:16.
Mommy: (giggling) that's just great audrey, I'm so proud of you.

note: I corrected the forgotten (should be begotten) soooo many times :) I never heard the mevolasting until tonight. sweet child.

note, note: Audrey and Andrew are attending Awana and Cubbies at our neighbor's church. It's a weeknight program run through a few area churches and it's just wonderful (our church doesn't start it's weeknight classes for kids until 1st grade). I'm not sure Andrew really "gets" it, but he's a sponge and is absorbing everything he hears. He'll get it, probably sooner than I realize. Audrey is in a group with our sweet neighbor girl, I really like her. The family says; please, thank you, yes m'am, no thank you, may I? etc., etc. It's adorable. The mom actually takes the kids at 5pm so she can get her room ready (Andrew's in her room). We pick them up at 7:30 (she's be willing to bring them home too... but I can get them home almost 30 minutes earlier, which still puts them to bed 45-60 minutes late). Phil and I have been using it for a date night with Jack. It's wonderful and I really felt guilty about it the first few weeks. I'm OK now :)

only forgotten son :) so cute... so darn cute. How is a 5 year old supposed to understand the word begotten?

He's a smart kid...

Andrew's teachers have mentioned more than once that he's the "enrichment" child in their class. I laughed. Yep, he knows the usual stuff; shapes, colors, letters, numbers, counting. Aparently, it's not normal to know Octagon or that it's a stop sign or that you spell stop S-T-O-P. Cute kid. I can only guess that he's taking in stuff when we're teaching Audrey. Yes, Audrey, who LAST summer (when she turned 4) made Phil and I cry because she still didn't know the letters of the alphabet. We'd show her a letter and she'd shrug her shoulders because she had no idea what it was. Audrey who this summer made me eat more chocolate and pull my hair out when trying to teach her to read... not difficult reading... easy words like "I", "and", and "the". I will admit, a book may have flew across the kitchen before I threw in the towel. At that point, I was still thinking about sending her to a school that is 1/2 time homeschool and 1/2 time in-school. The day the book went flying I knew homeschooling was "out the window" :)

But, Andrew... sweet, sweet boy that never stops talking. He actually has 3 years of preschool ahead of him. Arkansas is changing the cut off date for kindergarten to August 1st. Andrew's August 4th birthdate means he can't attend that year. I know, I should be fine with that and I am (for the most part)... I just may have to work a little harder to keep him interested in learning. To challenge him.

Now, I just need to teach the simple things like keeping fingers out of noses and talking with a more appropriate volume level when we're in public.

Oh, the reason for this post!!! (silly me) Today, there was a cake for the teachers at school... a hall coordinator's last day was today (and I got her job, cool!). Another hall coordinator peaked her head into Andrew's class and asked his teachers if they wanted any C-A-K-E. Andrew replied back: I want Cake!

Does that mean I can't spell "naughty" words around my kids anymore? Wait until his picks up on D-U-M-B... or other choice words ;)

Sweet, sweet child.
