On the road again...

just can't wait to get on the road again...
do da da do do da da blah blah blah do da...
well, I just can't wait to get on the road again...

Huh - it's much easier to remember the words of a song when the music is actually playing and the singer is singing.

Yes, folks, we are heading out again. This trip is fondly being called the "bus stop reunion". We are heading to Traverse City, Michigan for the weekend to meet friends from Boston. These would be three other couples that we went to school with - that we became friends with because of the comment - "you're from the midwest? oh, and you're married too? AND you're an engineer? huh, want to come over for dinner?"

When you're going to HBS, you find that you try to find people that are somewhat like you. You tended stayed away from the investment bankers from NYC and the consultants from the "bay area" - you may try to carry on a conversation with them but once to get past the pleasantries of "where are you from, what did you do, where did you go to undergrad", the conversation is pretty much over. As the 'partner' of a student... I just wanted to find women that were NORMAL!!! And most of the women that my hubby attended school with were not normal!

Why - "Bus Stop Reniun"? Well, there's this pub in Allston, MA (our side of the river) called the Bus Stop. Why is it called the Bus Stop? Yep, you guessed it, it's right across the street from a bus stop (a bus stop that I actually cried at a few times when the wind was blowing, the snow was deep, my toes were NUMB, and the bus was LATE again!!!). Hubby and these three guys used to go there for bad pizza and monday night football. They also used to try and dream up business plans... nothing has taken off quite yet.

Our actual trip to Traverse City, MI is going to be horrible... absolutely horrible... but I'm sure I'll be thankful we did it when I look back. I'll be picking up hubby from work tomorrow afternoon (after dropping the dog off at a kennel here in town) and driving 5 1/2 hours to Manitowoc, WI - riding a ferry that leaves the dock at 12:30 AM!! across Lake Michigan for 4 hours - then driving 2 hours to our final destination. Huh, can you say 'train wreck'?

It's an eleven hour drive without taking the ferry, but by taking the ferry least we'll get a 4 hour break while the ferry drives us... right?

Why not fly? Because it was at least $350 per person and Sweet Pea wasn't easy to hold on your lap when I flew with her last September!!! Three seats would have been really pricey on an airplane. We did reserve a 'state room' on the ferry so we could sleep a bit (we can't stay in the car on the ferry).

We'll report when we get back into town!!! We'd appreciate some prayer... Sweet Pea would appreciate it a ton (or we'd appreciate it FOR Sweet Pea!).
